Hydrated Skin is Best - Here's Why...

Updated: Sep 29, 2022

Why is keeping your skin hydrated important? It is helpful or does it even matter?

"Hydrated skin is happy skin. It just looks and feels good. When it comes to a healthy, glowing complexion, the importance of skin hydration is almost unmatched in skincare. But while it might seem like keeping your skin hydrated should be easy enough, it can be harder than it sounds.

Dehydrated skin needs water, but it might take more than a layer of your favorite moisturizer to bring it back to life. The good news? It's still possible — with the right habits, products and a little love and care."

Why hydrate my skin?

"Your skin thrives when it's properly hydrated. Hydration affects the texture and appearance of your skin, helping it become softer and smoother. In other words, hydrated skin looks younger. Unlike moisturizing, which helps to retain skin's moisture, hydration adds water to the skin. Dehydrated skin can be dry, but it can also be oily. Dry skin is characterized by lower sebum production, but dehydrated skin simply lacks water. When your skin is dehydrated, it might look duller, feel tighter or be more prone to inflammation, congestion and breakouts."

Hydration vs Hydrated Skin

There actually is a difference between skin hydration and hydrated skin.

If your face is "begging for a drink, focus on creating a consistent routine packed with hydrating skincare products, treatments and, yes, more water." Hydration doesn't automatically lead to hydrated skin. There is more to treating your skin than just water.

Water actually changes your skin's PH level and can dry you out. It is important to replenish your skin's moisture barrier and rebalance your skin PH with a moisturizer, hydrating serum and cream.

Products that contain ingredients like alcohol or peppermint will strip vital hydration from your skin. So watching for these when selecting moisturizers and serums is most helpful.

For the best results to keeping your skin hydrated, try these steps:

  • 1. Use water-based products: "Try a hydrating water gel moisturizer after cleansing and exfoliating to help restore hydration to your skin."

  • 2. Serums are highly effective: A hydrating serum before your moisturizer will give your skin a chance to hold on to that moisture.

  • 3. Consider using a night cream: "Skin naturally rejuvenates while you sleep, making it a great time to focus on restoring and treating your skin." The most effective night creams are thicker and provide needed relief for rejuvenation all night long.

Most important ingredient - Hyaluronic Acid

Does hyaluronic help acne or aging skin?

There's a ton of products on the market today and the options can be overwhelming. But one key ingredient will be your best bet and make the options more narrow: hyaluronic acid. Contrary to the name "acid", this substance is natural and is found throughout your body. We have more in our skin than anywhere

Hyaluronic Acid binds to water and holds it within the skin's surface. "By incorporating a product that includes hyaluronic acid into your routine, you can help keep your skin hydrated so it looks and feels fresh." As a result, acne will be reduced and obvious signs of aging will diminish.

Your Skin is Speaking to You - Be sure to listen!

Because our face is the first thing people encounter when meeting someone, it is important to first impressions. Being hydrated gives you a glowing complexion and provides a refreshed appeal. No one wants to look old or feel older than we are. Hydration is a key need to looking and staying as youthful as you feel.

Give your skin the gift of hydration by following effective skin care steps and staying hydrated on the outside as well as the inside.
